It’s wild the parallels you see between the way kids behave, the behaviors you see in adults, and the impact that a lack of boundaries/accountability has on both. Eventually, those kids with no boundaries turn into “adults” (by age of legal majority only, rarely in maturity) that have their own kids they absent-mindedly raise to be little twats. And then those kids cause problems for my kids. Such is the circle of life we’re all products of, I suppose.
There are times it feels like critical thinking is dead. Nuance has been lost or, more aptly, abandoned. Things must be “black” or “white” or they’re deemed unacceptable (or unable to be understood, perhaps). Constructive disagreement is a lost art form and people seek asylum in digital echo chambers looking for anything that provides confirmation bias. Responsibility and accountability are avoided by many people for many things and replaced with an inappropriate sense of entitlement. We seek comfort and avoid discomfort at all costs. And, in the case above, that confirmation bias and avoidance of discomfort is usually unacknowledged and comes from others raising equally twatty kids just trying to make themselves feel better.
Maybe I’m just grumpy today. Maybe I’m just on one. But where did the middle ground go? I guess this is just a crass way of saying if something is easy, it’s probably not worth it. Anything worth it will always take commitment, dedication, intentionality, and desire.
Anyway, I didn’t get new boots. But I did set 2025 goals, which are like boots for my budget. To summarize what took me weeks……(more) growth. But growth the right way. People first. Customer-centric.
For me, for Silverhawk, this will mean compromise and finding middle ground. It’ll mean treating people like people. It’ll mean asking the right questions. It’ll mean continued transparency to an extreme degree. It’ll mean giving more than we get. It will mean being able to identify – and willing to enforce – boundaries with customers, for customers, and for Silverhawk. And it will mean simply being good people.
Long story short, the Platinum rule reigns supreme in all we do. If you’re exploring charter services or programs and want to be treated like a person, call me.
In a prior life, I used to sign off emails with samples of my current listening(s) whether it be a podcast or music. Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight” is currently top of the heap for me at the moment. Funky beat. Certified banger. Jurassic 5 (Concrete Schoolyard destroys), Public Enemy (Harder Than You Think), Jedi Mind Tricks, Nas, Talib Kweli (Get By), Black Star (Re: Definition and Definition), and R.A. The Rugged Man have also been getting a lot of play time out of me. In a hip hop mood, I guess.
One of these days I’ll bother to figure out if there’s a correlation between my music and my musings. Until then…..
Stay curious,
Mark
